For Americans there is no patriotic holiday that tops Independence Day! It is the day we celebrate the very founding of our nation, and as John Adams said the very day before signing the Declaration of Independence;
"It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more."
And commemorate we have! Every Fourth of July our citizens come out of hiding and fill our parks and cities to wave old Glory in remembrance of all that make us Americans.
