Forever Fun Holiday Collectibles For 2013

Some of you may recall that many years ago a company called Memory Lane released a line of holiday collectible figures of the Peanuts and Rankin & Bass Rudolph characters. I bought quite a few of the Charlie Brown Christmas and Great Pumpkin set, but they eventually dropped the line and it was discontinued. A few years later a company called Forever Fun popped up, which not holds the rights to the designs. They started releasing some of these sets and even added new pieces each year. They have not been as easy to find as I would like, as I think their products are excellent, but one sure place I have always found them in CVS and sometimes Toys R Us. Every year I look forward to seeing what they put out for the holiday season and have gotten many of their items. Disney Sketchbook Ornament Collection

Disney's Haunted Mansion Collection

I am simply mad when it comes to all things Disney...especially their world class amusement parks! Living in Southern California, I do my best to take a trip out to Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure as often as possible. It just never gets old! Like most visitors, I have my favorite attractions and the very top of the list for me is The Haunted Mansion. As a child, the realism of its ghostly effects terrified me. As an adult I could fully appreciate the creative work that went behind it and am amazed by how well the technology has held up over time (with a few upgrades of course).

So, you can imagine my joy in sharing this new Haunted Mansion Collection available from the Disney Store. There are some excellent pieces here, many of which will make for spooky decor pieces for Halloween, but I think the one I love most of all if the Holiday ornament. Also, for one week only you can score a limited edition, glow-in-the-dark tee, featuring the mysterious fan-favorite 'Hatbox Ghost' that legendarily vanished from Disneyland's original Haunted Mansion attic scene.

Mad Monsters!

Rankin & Bass are world famous for their heartwarming classic Christmas specials, but they also tried their hand at making 2 Halloween specials; "Mad Monster Party" (a similar stop motion style as Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer) & "Mad Mad Mad Monsters" (a traditional animated feature like Frosty The Snowman). Similar to the Christmas specials based on popular Children's songs, these specials seemed to be loosely based on the Halloween anthem, "The Monster Mash" by Bobby "Boris" Pickett & The Crypt-Kickers, and feature many of the same characters.

Although these seemed to fade into obscurity after their initial release, "Mad Monster Party" has had a bit of a resurgence after its release on DVD and has since developed a cult following, whereas "Mad Mad Mad Monsters" saw its debut release on DVD earlier this year.

Despite its new-found popularity, there is not much in the way of merchandise as there is for Rudolph & Frosty. So, I was excited to run across 2 sets of figures made by Funko, Series 1 featuring Werewolf, Frankenstein, Zombie Bellhop & Dracula, and Series 2 featuring Francesca, Mr. Hyde, Skeleton Band & Yetch. Unfortunately there was a very small limited number of these sets made and they have since sold out. It's a bummer, but my hope is that more people will show interest and either these figures will be re-released or new figures will be available in the future. I thought they were worth sharing just the same!

I guess my biggest question is, where is the figure of Baron Von Frankenstein, i.e. Uncle Boris? The closest I could find was this cold cast resin statue that is also no longer available. Doesn't appear to be related to the set either, but pretty awesome!

For anyone who is truly interested in purchasing a set, the good news is that there are a few Series 2 sets available on Amazon. Perhaps you'll have luck finding the rest on Ebay!
